About Us

Our Story

What makes us stand out and stay on track!

Since 2008, we have been transforming refugee and smallholder farms into thriving hubs of sustainable agriculture.

Faima Posho Shop Millers Ltd. is more than just an agro-processing company; it is a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change in the Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement in Uganda. Established with a vision to empower refugees and promote self-sufficiency, our mission is to provide reliable market access, foster sustainable farming practices, and enhance the livelihoods of refugee farmers.

Our journey began with a simple yet profound idea: to support refugee communities by leveraging their agricultural potential. We understood that refugees, often overlooked, have the skills and resilience to contribute significantly to the agricultural sector. By offering comprehensive training programs, we have equipped them with knowledge in sustainable farming practices, post-harvest handling, and organic agriculture, enabling them to produce high-quality crops.

More about us and our operations.

At Faima Posho Shop Millers Ltd., we believe in fair market access. We purchase crops from refugee and smallholder farmers at above-market prices, ensuring they earn a sustainable income. This approach not only empowers farmers but also guarantees the availability of affordable, quality food in refugee-hosting areas. Our commitment to value addition means that the crops grown by refugees are processed into products like maize flour, sorghum flour, and barley products, creating employment opportunities within the community and increasing the economic value of their produce.

Our impact extends beyond just economic empowerment. We are deeply committed to environmental sustainability. By promoting the cultivation of drought-resistant crops and implementing energy-efficient milling processes, we help farmers adapt to climate change while minimizing our environmental footprint. Our comprehensive waste management systems ensure that by-products are reused, contributing to a circular economy.

Today, we engage over 5000 smallholder farmers, including refugees, and employ 16 full-time staff members, seven of whom are refugees. Our efforts have led to a 36% increase in seasonal incomes for our farmer trainees and improved farming practices and market access in refugee communities. Our dedication to making a difference has not gone unnoticed; we were recognized as finalists in Acumen Academy’s Accelerator for Ventures Serving Displaced People.

As we look to the future, we are determined to scale up our operations, enhance our product offerings, and expand our reach to other refugee-hosting areas and regional markets. Faima Posho Shop Millers Ltd. remains steadfast in our mission to transform lives through sustainable agriculture, ensuring that every farmer we work with has the opportunity to thrive.
